Salon Series

Designed to be a quarterly, open-ended forum for the arts, the Salon provides opportunities for discussion, camaraderie, networking, and collaboration for those interested in furthering the arts in Malden. Come and meet other artists and art supporters, publicize your activities, share your ideas, plan events, and envision the future of the arts in Malden.

Our next Salon is Tuesday January 17 2012
This Salon will take place at the Malden Public Library, and feature a presentation on the history of the rise of industry along the Malden River and its impact on the local arts community.
A Window Arts Malden Encore exhibit artist reception will be held in conjuction with the Salon.

On Tuesday November 15 we hosted a Salon at the First Parish Church in Malden.
Malden resident Laura Packer, a storyteller, writer and dreamer, will shared her whimsical and unusual stories.
A 2010 Boston story slam finalist and 2011 semi-finalist, Laura has performed around the world, including FirstNight Boston and the National Storytelling Festival. She has also hosted five storytelling series in her almost 20 years of storytelling experience. Laura's stories range from personal to funny to magical and more. Join us for an entertaining and thought-provoking evening.

On Thursday, June 16, we held a salon at First Parish Church, Malden.
Bruce Marcus, a professional storyteller who lives in Malden, was featured

On Wednesday March 2, we held a salon at the Malden Public Library.
In conjunction with Malden Reads, a historical and architectural tour of the library will be featured.
Come see parts of this H.H. Richardson gem that are not open to the public! Refreshments will be served.
Anyone interested in the arts in Malden is welcome to attend.

The library is located at 36 Salem St., opposite the high school.
Limited on-street parking is available. See www.maldenpubliclibrary.org.

On Wednesday, November 17, 7:00–9:00 p.m., a salon was held at the First Parish Church in Malden. This salon featured readings by writers and poets. Artists interested in sharing your written work were encouraged to bring it and read aloud! An encore art exhibit by the 2010 Window Arts Malden artists will also be on display.

Salons are usually held at the First Parish in Malden, 2 Elm Street, between Elm and Pleasant Streets (Route 60). The First Parish is 2 blocks west of the Malden T Station and there is free parking in the lot between First Parish and Beebe School, off of Elm St. Anyone interested in the arts in Malden is welcome to attend.

On Thursday, March 4th we held our 5th Salon at The First Parish in Malden. Over 40 poeople turned out on a rainy evening to meet the Irving St studio artists, and to mingle and talk about the arts.

On Wednesday, November 18 Malden Arts marked the first anniversary of the Malden Arts Salon series with a festive reception at the First Parish in Malden. Please join us for a fun evening including conversation, refreshments, and live music by Rick Saunders.

 

Our first ever salon had a very successful launch in November. Pictures above show the community engaging in discussions and brainstorming sessions about the arts. Tanya Hanel from the Malden Redevelopment Authority spoke about the new Irving Street Studios being built in downtown Malden.

Our second Salon was held on Thursday, February 19, 7:00–9:00 p.m., at the First Parish in Malden, 2 Elm Street, between Elm and Pleasant Streets (Route 60). Christine DiPietro spoke about incorporating art into the new Senior Center.
